Bishop Allende Meets with Migrant Children
During a sports activity night hosted by the Hartville Migrant Ministry on Thursday, June 29th, the children enjoyed a surprise visit by Bishop Abraham Allende of the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Bishop Allende shared a scriptural message “Athletes exercise control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one (1 Corinthians 9:25)” in both English and Spanish. He stated that Bible study, prayer, and worship were like athletic practice sessions that prepared Christians to serve humanity. “You are the first Bible that many people will read” the bishop explained. “They will learn about Christianity through your caring behavior towards them.”
The weekly activity night is directed by Kate Viscounte and Seth Slabaugh and meets at the athletic fields near the Hartville Migrant Center in Hartville, Ohio every Thursday during the growing season from 6:00 to 7:30PM.
